In a world of mass production and fleeting experiences, MyRugy was founded on a simple but powerful set of principles. We believe that a business can be a force for good, a guardian of tradition, and a bridge between cultures.
Many places can teach you a craft, but we want to offer you a connection. This page outlines the core commitments that define every workshop we host and every craft box we create. This is the MyRugy Difference.
1. We Are Artisan-Led
This is the most important pillar of our identity. Our workshop is not simply "inspired by" artisans; it is led by them. Our instructors are not tour guides; they are maalems—master weavers from Amazigh communities who possess a lifetime of knowledge passed down through their families.
Their expertise guides everything we do. We honor their skill, we respect their heritage, and we ensure they are fairly and sustainably compensated for sharing their incredible gift. We believe the teacher is more important than the technique, and our commitment is first and foremost to the women who are the true heart of this craft.
2. We Are Committed to Authentic Materials
You cannot create an authentic piece of art with inauthentic materials. We have made a conscious choice to reject the cheaper, easier path of using acrylic yarns or synthetic dyes.
Every guest at our workshop and every person who opens a MyRugy Craft Box will use 100% natural, locally sourced Moroccan wool. This is the same durable, lanolin-rich wool from the sheep of the Atlas Mountains that has been used for centuries. We believe that feeling the true texture and character of this material is essential to understanding the craft. This commitment extends to our dyes, favoring traditional, natural color sources whenever possible.

3. We Believe in Connection over Commerce
Our goal is not to process as many tourists as possible. Our goal is to create genuine human connections.
This is why we insist on small group sizes. It allows our instructors to give personal, one-on-one attention to every guest. It fosters a warm, intimate atmosphere where conversation can flourish. The experience starts with a traditional mint tea ceremony, a ritual of hospitality, not a transaction. We want you to feel like a welcome guest in a creative home, not just a customer in a class. We believe the stories you share are as important as the weaving you create.
4. We Are Guardians of a Living Heritage
We see ourselves as more than just a business; we see ourselves as a small part of a larger mission. The art of Berber weaving is a precious piece of cultural heritage, and we are committed to helping it thrive.
By providing a sustainable and respectful source of income for our artisan partners, we help ensure they can continue to practice their craft. By introducing this art form to visitors from all over the world, we create a new generation of enthusiasts who appreciate its beauty and history. Every workshop booked and every kit sold helps keep this beautiful tradition alive, strong, and respected.
When you choose MyRugy, you are choosing more than just an activity or a product. You are choosing to support a community, to honor a tradition, and to participate in a beautiful story.
We invite you to be a part of it.
