The Best Time of Year to Visit Marrakech, Morocco

The Best Time of Year to Visit Marrakech, Morocco

Marrakech is a magical, year-round destination, with each season offering a unique personality and a different set of experiences. The "best" time to visit truly depends on what you're looking for: perfect weather for sightseeing, scorching sun for poolside lounging, or fewer crowds and better prices.

That said, for the ideal balance of pleasant weather and vibrant city life, the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn are generally considered unbeatable.

To help you plan your perfect trip, here is a seasonal breakdown of what to expect in Marrakech throughout the year.

Spring (March to May) – The Peak Season

Weather: This is arguably the most beautiful time in Marrakech. The weather is idyllic, with long, sunny days and pleasantly warm temperatures, typically ranging from 20-28°C (68-82°F). The evenings are mild and perfect for rooftop dining. The gardens are in full bloom, and the city is bursting with color and life.

What to Expect: As the weather is perfect, this is peak tourist season. Expect larger crowds at major attractions like the Jardin Majorelle and Bahia Palace. Prices for flights and accommodation will be at their highest.

Best For:

  • Comfortable sightseeing and exploring the souks for hours.

  • Enjoying breakfast on your Riad's sunny rooftop.

  • Day trips to the Atlas Mountains, which are lush and green during this time.

Autumn (September to November) – The Second Peak

Weather: Much like spring, autumn offers gorgeous weather. The intense heat of the summer has subsided, leaving behind beautifully warm and sunny days, typically from 22-29°C (72-84°F). The light is often softer and more golden, making it a favorite time for photographers.

What to Expect: This is the second peak season, so while it might be slightly less crowded than spring, you should still expect the city to be bustling and vibrant. It's advisable to book flights and accommodation well in advance.

Best For:

  • Enjoying the last of the year's truly warm weather.

  • Sightseeing in comfortable temperatures.

  • Watching the sunset from a rooftop terrace with a cocktail.

Summer (June to August) – The Heat

Weather: There is no way to sugarcoat it: summer in Marrakech is intensely hot. Temperatures regularly soar above 40°C (104°F), and the sun is relentless.

What to Expect: The rhythm of the city changes. Locals and savvy travelers explore in the early morning and late evening, seeking refuge from the heat in the middle of the day. This is the perfect time to embrace a slower pace of life. You may find better deals on flights and some Riads.

Best For:

  • Sun-seekers who genuinely love the heat.

  • Spending long, lazy afternoons lounging by a swimming pool.

  • Finding good deals on accommodation.

Winter (December to February) – The Cool Season

Weather: Winter in Marrakech is often a pleasant surprise for visitors. The days are typically crisp, clear, and sunny, with temperatures perfect for walking around, around 18-20°C (64-68°F). However, as soon as the sun goes down, it gets cold, with nighttime temperatures dropping significantly.

What to Expect: This is the low season (with the exception of a peak around Christmas and New Year's), so you'll find fewer crowds and some of the best prices. The highlight of winter is the stunningly clear view of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, which provides a beautiful backdrop to the city.

Best For:

  • Travelers on a budget.

  • Exploring the souks and palaces without the crowds.

  • Enjoying a cozy evening by a fireplace in your Riad.

The cooler days are perfect for enjoying indoor activities, like a long, relaxing hammam or a cozy afternoon learning a new skill at a traditional MyRugy weaving workshop.
